Saturday, April 22, 2017     5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Now that we’re mostly settled into our new, much bigger space we decided to throw a grand re-opening party! We’re going to mix in a little bit of our retro gaming night too and have a few retro game stations set up around the place. […]

We’ve moved into the new, bigger space!

We’ve officially moved into the bigger space and it is wonderful! There’s so much room for activities! It’s in the same building as before, only a few doors down on the south corner. It’s actually suite 125 and 126 combined. Here’s a gallery of photos taken during the move in weekend over March 25-26.

Melbourne Makerspace is Moving to a Bigger Space!

We’re moving to a bigger space just a few doors down from our current location. So now there’s more room to work on projects and have more classes and events as well as more tools! Come out any portion of the day to help us move tables, chairs, 3D printers, laser cutter, table saw, band […]

Vacuum Former Running Great!

For the past four Wednesdays we’ve been using the Hobby-vac vacuum former we built to create chocolate molds.  We’ve found a great plastic sheet to use from widgetworksunlimited.com.  It’s PETG which is FDA food safe and is the same plastic you see all those “clam shell” packages at the stores. We did need to visit […]

Chocolate Experimentation!!

For the next few arts n’ crafts Wednesday classes (and maybe even the 3D printing and laser cutting Friday classes) we’ll be getting ready to make our own Valentine’s Day chocolates.  We’ve finally come up with a good group project to use our vacuum forming machine that we built as a group.  We’ll be 3D […]

Laser cut business cards

At tonight’s Wednesday night arts and crafts we had someone that wanted to make their own business cards.  He brought his own stack of card stock so it was off to a good start! He also already designed the artwork so we pulled it into Inkscape and started copy/pasting the cards to fit a bunch […]

Mini Sumo Fighting Robot Tournament

Today we held the official, final Mini Sumo autonomous fighting robot competition tournament.  It was done in a round robin style with two bots per match with best out of three rounds winning the match.  Each robot got a point for winning a match.  We gave a Raspberry Pi 3 starter kit to the first […]

2nd Annual Retro Gaming Night Recap

We had lots of visitors come out and play some old school video games at the makerspace today.  We did allow emulators since we had very few original consoles.  We played games from the original Atari 2600 like Asteroids and Space Invaders, original Nintendo games like Super Mario Bros. and Galaga, as well as some Sonic […]

2nd Annual Retro Gaming Night

We will wipe the dust from our original Nintendo, get the old Apple IIe out of the closet, crank up the Sega Genesis, and have a big party playing old retro games!  Any computer game or console that came out before the year 2000 will be allowed.  We’ll even have a few systems with hundreds […]

Sign up to build your own battle robot!

Our next class series will be building, programming, testing, and fighting mini sumo robots!  Mini sumo bots are fully autonomous with no remote controls!  We have worked tirelessly putting together kits full of parts to bring the cost way down so almost anyone can get started for $26!  We laser cut and 3D printed as […]
