We had lots of visitors come out and play some old school video games at the makerspace today. We did allow emulators since we had very few original consoles. We played games from the original Atari 2600 like Asteroids and Space Invaders, original Nintendo games like Super Mario Bros. and Galaga, as well as some Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis. This year we brought out the grill again and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs to pair with the chips and dip in addition to the selection of snacks, candy, and soda we keep at the space.
We had lots of fun with the tournament games with some of us screaming out “Noooooo!” when loosing that last life in a blaze of glory right in front of Bowser, at the hands of some alien tractor beam, or dying of dysentery on the Oregon trail. There were hand made “trophies” for each 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each of the tournament games: Super Mario Bros, Galaga, and The Oregon Trail.
Everyone agreed that we have to do this again next year – or even sooner!
