Melbourne Makerspace is hosting a robot fighting competition.

Do you want to build a combat robot?
Open-House build days will be scheduled with members who will provide lessons and guidance for building robots. Anyone is welcome to attend, but the class will be focused on getting the <18 division robots designed, built and operational.
During these build days, makers will teach participants:
- The electronic components for the robot, and how to wire them together
- Introduction to the base 3d-printed chassis
- Options for weapon systems
Robots are built using CAD and 3d printing. Each robot team will schedule time with a maker to help them design the parts needed for their design. Teams can of course design / download / print their own parts if they wish.
Divisions
<18 Division: 3d-printed robots for participants under 18 years old
Electronics and other materials to build in this class are sponsored by FlashFlow, a Melbourne FL based AI business process automation company. Each team will be issued:
- 2 N20 gearmotors
- 1 Dual-Motor speed controller
- 1 LiPo 3 cell battery
- 1 Radio Controller and Receiver
- One “weapon” system consisting of either a brushless motor and controller or two servos, depending on selected design
These materials will be kept at the Melbourne Makerspace where contestants can work on them during any open-house times for non-Makerspace members, or anytime for Makerspace members.

18+ Division: Any-Materials robots for fighters 18+
The 18+ division is not sponsored, and is not limited to 3d printed chassis. Fighters will be responsible for the costs of their own materials. The same 1lb limit applies.

Rules
We will be following rules set out by SPARC at SPARC Robot Construction Specifications with minor exceptions:We are only having one weight class, regardless of type of locomotion. SPARC allows for different weights depending if your bot rolls, walks, or has other locomotion. There is a strict 1lb weight limit for all entries into this competition
Both <18 and 18+ divisions have the same rules , with the following exceptions for <18 division
- The robot chassis and weapon must be 3d printed
- “Standard” paint can be used as long as it is not for the purpose of improving structural integrity such as using truck bed paint
