Melbourne Makerspace survives on the efforts of a few hard-working (and usually overloaded) member-volunteers. There is no paid staff. We can always find ways for new volunteers to contribute to keeping our Makerspace alive. Are you ready to be a new volunteer?
What do our volunteers do? The tasks are highly varied. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Care and feeding of Melbourne Makerspace as a corporation:
- Finance/bookkeeping,
- Insurance,
- Tax returns, and
- Annual reports required by the government.
Facilities:
- Keeping licenses and inspections up to date,
- Cleaning,
- Being on-hand when tradesmen come in for service/repairs
- Volunteer labor for repairs and improvement.
Public and Membership services:
- Hosting the various shop open houses as primary host or as support,
- Signing up new members, and
- Helping members with access or due-paying issues.
Fundraising:
- Integrating donated material and equipment into the Makerspace,
- Soliciting donations and donor relations
Shop administration:
- Cleaning
- Maintaining machines
- Repairing machines
- Handling excess/overdue project storage and material
- Ordering consumables
Our current most critical needs are:
- Help cleaning the space regularly, and
- Open house hosts and backup hosts.
