Show & Tell Recap & LibraryCon 2025

This past Wednesday, February 19, our latest Show & Tell at Melbourne Makerspace was a fantastic display of creativity, innovation, and ingenuity. This special event helped us prepare for LibraryCon 2025, where we’ll showcase incredible projects and inspire the community to explore what they can create at our makerspace.

We had a great turnout, and many makers shared their latest projects. Here are a few highlights:

Jasmine’s Modular Robots

Jasmine has worked hard to design and prototype a modular robotic system. She tested different shapes to find the best fit for modular connections. Using ball neodymium magnets, she created a unique snap-together system. Her goal is to embed small chips into each module, allowing them to interact and form an adorable, functional network of caring little robots. These modular robots are perfect for STEM education, encouraging hands-on learning and creativity.

Julia’s Stunning Solar Lights

Julia brought her dazzling light displays, a great example of upcycling and creative repurposing. Most materials were sourced from the dollar store and transformed into artistic night lights and tiki torches. Using LED-powered solar lights, colored glass, and bic pen tubes to diffract light, she created beautiful glowing patterns that look mesmerizing at night. These lights are an affordable, sustainable, and fun project that anyone can make at home.

Mike’s SumoBots

Mike introduced his latest SumoBots, powered by Raspberry Pi Picos. These small but powerful robots are designed for line-following competitions. They use precise sensors to navigate even the tightest corners. These bots will be a highlight at LibraryCon, where attendees can watch them in action! SumoBots are a fantastic introduction to robotics programming, offering a fun way to learn about sensors, coding, and automation.

Why LibraryCon?

LibraryCon is a great opportunity to showcase the possibilities of makerspaces to the community. Whether you’re interested in robotics, crafting, or engineering, there’s something for everyone at Melbourne Makerspace. Our goal is to inspire and educate, showing how anyone can bring their ideas to life using the tools and expertise available at our space.

More Projects to Come!

These were just a few of the many innovative projects shared during the event. Other members also presented impressive creations, which we’ll feature in dedicated project highlights soon! From 3D printing to electronics and coding, our members continue to push creative boundaries.

We hope to see everyone at the 5th Annual Brevard LibraryCon this weekend! Join us at our booth to see these creations in action and learn more about what you can build at Melbourne Makerspace.
