ESP8266 Wifi Experience class 2015-07-11

Video of class will be posted on the Melbourne Makerspace YouTube channel.

ESP8266 Wifi Experience class 2015-07-11 10:00 AM.

This is not your usual class. I have made 10 adapter boards to connect the ESP8266 wifi module to a USB FTDI adapter, providing required pull-ups, reset button, programming jumper and controllable LED. I have the whole shooting match available, assembled and tested on Linux and Win7 for $25 (includes the ESP8266 wifi module, USB FTDI adapter and my custom board.

When you sign up, indicate if you want to purchase that kit or just use your own hardware. We will go over how to use the Arduino IDE to upload new firmware to demonstrate several types of servers and clients, to scan wifi signals and to control an LED from any browser.

Good prep would be to download the latest Arduino IDEhttps://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software then this (or we can walk you through it)  Installing with Boards Manager

Starting with 1.6.4, Arduino allows installation of third-party platform packages using Boards Manager. We have packages available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux (32 and 64 bit).

Install Arduino 1.6.4 from the Arduino website.
Start Arduino and open Preferences window.
Enter http://arduino.esp8266.com/package_esp8266com_index.json into Additional Board Manager URLs field. You can add multiple URLs, separating them with commas.
Open Boards Manager from Tools > Board menu and install esp8266 platform (and don’t forget to select your ESP8266 board from Tools > Board menu after installation).

Pleas give us feedback on the class.
